Melissa Shandley works in fiber arts and mixed media.  She believes that art changes our perception, especially if the art is interactive.  Her Equine Spirit Masks are works of art that can be worn to shift human vision into horse vision.  The cross-cultural tradition of masking has inspired many of Melissa's creations and workshops.  Felting is another tradition that Melissa employs--creating felted animal sculptures and felted jewelry using a combination of needle felting and wet felting techniques.

Melissa is inspired by working with natural materials:  paper, gourds, feathers, horsehair, all types of fiber, natural dyes and found materials.  Many of her art endeavors are contemporary interpretations of traditional arts, fabric design, mask making, sculpted figures, horsehair jewelry, or gourd sculpture.

She is an accomplished Expressive Arts facilitator and enjoys awakening the creative process for others.  Her Equine Spirit Mask workshows have been enjoyed by hundreds of all ages and skill levels.
