Helen Cahill
I spent the majority of my professional career as a newspaper reporter, editor, and corporate communications manager during which time I practiced news photography. Later I studied creative photography and then branched out and received certifications and either worked as, or volunteered as, an Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter, and Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.
All of my activities honed my skills of observation and attention to detail. My digital photographs concentrate on wildlife in their natural settings and landscapes with an eye to the unusual.
I am a self-taught pine needle artist. My baskets and original wall art and decorative pieces incorporate fine basketry techniques with hand woven art and nature’s wonders as accents. My passion is using pine needles or a camera to create art that carries a meaning beyond the obvious. Many pieces also include a written message because, after all, I am a journalist at heart.
